Pop and pour. Just gorgeous now and one of the wines of the night. Classic Cote Rotie with loads of olive brine, game and black raspberry with a floral tinge. Still rather primary. Fantastic acidity and density. Serious tannin on the long finish. Very good with raclette(!), but this is still a baby.

9th Annual Holiday Dinner and Cellar Raid (Naperville, IL): Part of wine dinner and cellar raid so did not take detailed notes. Finally a Northern Rhone to try along with the Rhone Rangers. I have always loved this wine and it shows what a reasonably priced Cote Rotie is all about.

Not so interesting upon opening, so I let this sit in a wide-bottom decanter for about 1hr, and then it was singing, though this bottle showed quite young on the nose. A hint of brambly red fruit, a touch of animal and brine, some salted meat, a pinch of rosemary. On the palate seems to show its age more. Shows a touch thin, but then minty herbs and red fruit, some nice pepper and a soft fruity finish, with a touch of tannin.

This was amazing. Very pure flavors both on the nose and palate. Definitely mature and not sure how much this will improve. The tannins were resolved and light. Bottom line is that this was just delicious.
