  • A late release from the chateau. In magnum. Not recorked, but new labels and capsule so looked pristine. Golden hues. Buttery. Oily. Hint of caramel. Shared by SW

  • Julia's 50th (Old Rectory): A Magnum with perfect fill, new capsule & labels affixed by Bouchard in 2008, but with original cork. Sublimely good, showing no signs at all of aging or oxidisation. Honey & summer flowers on the nose; delicious balanced complex fruit on the palate, developing into a complex, nuanced series of intense flavours of persistence and length. When I sold all my 1996-2000 white burgs in 2008, no longer willing to throw out 50% of what I opened due to premox, this was one of four expensive cases of pre-1995 white burgs which I picked up on the market with the proceeds. A bit of a punt of course to buy a wine already 26 years old, but I purchased the wine Ex Cellars, and happily this case at least looks like being an outstanding success. This was the first of these mags which we have tried, but there seems no hurry to drink up.
