  • Opened 2 hours before drinking. Medium yellow. Pure ripe apple, a hint of honey, and strong white floral tones. No secondary Riesling aromas at all. Light weight. Moderately sweet fresh fruit with very little development over the last 5 years and light slate finish. My only minor quibble with this wine is that as with the previous bottles, tonight it was also less precise and exciting than the really great ones due to "only" average acidity. That has not hindered its incredibly slow aging curve-amazingly pristine for 20 year old Riesling.

  • AP 7. First bottle from a five bottle lot purchased in Trier in 2003. Pristine. Light to medium straw yellow colour, light for age; youthful nose, smoky slate, lime, green herbs, no botrytis; the palate displays beautiful tension between ripe but firm 2001-acidity and elegant sweetness, peach and lemon curd flavours with a hint of waxy bottle-age, vibrant apple skin bitters; convincing finish, long and complete. Cracking stuff, early maturity now, at least 15 more years of positive development ahead.

  • Leaky bottle - corked fully soaked, and this showed slightly more advanced than my last one a year ago, with a more burnished/golden hue to the fruit and the developed flavours more prominent. Not quite the same blazing acidity and focus as I remember from other bottles; the richness of the fruit stands out more here and this has the feel of an Auslese.

  • Brilliant. On a plateau of early maturity with powerful citrus and white fruited flavours framed by smoke, minerality, gentle floral notes, and other developed savouriness. It's in that amazing place where there's a lot of maturity apparent, but the fruit still feels incredibly fresh, vibrant, and full of youthful energy.

  • Mint, smoke, hint of caramel. Good, though not absolutely certain well stored (mine, but no memory of when acquired, cork for slightly protruding, and S said slid out a little too easily). Still, awful tasty. B+
