  • My last bottle of this gem-of-a-wine. Popped and left to gather itself together with a slow wake up of a couple of hours. Its ever lovely self shines with cherry, plum, black currant, mint, cassis, graphite and licorice. The mouthfeel lacks the weight of a New World Cab, of course, but nonetheless delivers a proper claret weight while delivers full flavors. The core’s color is that of a deep plum. Some sediment. 12.5% alc. With grilled lamb burgers. Recommended.

  • Graphite and mineral explode with the pulling of the cork. This wine is ready to go! A few hours later, the nose is rich with cherry, plum, mint, cassis, graphite. Licorice carries the rather long finish. The mouthfeel if smooth - a touch light, but smooth. A very solid wine.. 12.5% alc. With seared beef fillets under a cognac-shallot-caper creamed sauce. Recommended.

  • We paired this against a Ch. De Fieuzal ‘00 to see how they might compare. While the de Fieuzal outclassed this Puy-Blanquet in every way, the Puy-Blanquet still delivered plenty of pleasure. As it was earlier this year, the color of cranberry carries the rim while the core remains a nearly opaque beef blood. Cedar, graphite, plum and currant carry the palate, but none of them dominate, making for a pleasing pour. A touch of mocha comes through on the decent finish. Next to the de Fieuzal, however, the Puy-Blanquet lacks focus. This remains one of the best QPRs of the 2000 vintage for my money. This appears to be ready to drink. Holding further is unlikely to reward. 12.5% alc. With roasted (beef) tenderloin. Recommended.

  • The color is al cranberry at the rim and a (still) opaque core of beef blood. The nose is all cedar, graphite, plum and currant. All of those elements burst through on the palate with distinctness and cleanness. The finish is all mocha. This most be one of the best QPRs of the 2000 vintage. 12.5% alc. With roast (beef) sirloin. Recommended.

  • Ruby color with long legs - nose with wet leather and graphite - flavor still a bit fruity with hints of sour cherries and sichuan pepper - drink fast because the wine is dying soon - drink this year
