  • Enjoyed at Reata in Downtown Fort Worth. BRAVO Reata, for having a Cab Franc on your menu and it paired perfectly with the stuffed quail, tendernloin and cheddar mashed potatoes. This wine from the get go was READY TO GO from pop and pour, but I betcha this one has about another five years still. Cork popped with zero crystallization or sediment on the neck. Wine poured clean as the night developed. Cork with a medium red cherry stain. The nose out of the glass was that medium red fruit - cherry, raspberry, with that "austerity" (ala funk) that Cab Francs are notorious for having. No acidity up front - excellent balance of fruit with the rugged with soil and floor, and sediment that one gets with a classic, well made, well balanced cabernet franc. Finished with a little heat on it, cinnamon red hot, and it was about a medium to full bodied attempt at cab franc. Not overly done, but the spiciness was well appreciated and I could see that this characteristic about it would probably make someone who wasn't as versed on cab franc actually like it due to the spiciness at the end of the sip. We were fighting over who got the last bit of it...of course the wife won. If I ever see this one in stores, I'd probably get a half case - 3 to hold and 3 to drink. Nicely done wine.
