Community Tasting Notes (12) Median Score: 91 points

  • Wow... this one was really disappointing compared to previous bottles of this same vintage. This one was really tannic - almost astringent. Fruit was still there but could not get past the burn. Oh well.

  • Dark and brilliant ruby color, about 80% opaque and fast legs. Honeysuckle and jasmine florals with dark currant, cassis, and Christmas candy in the modestly powered bouquet. Palate has great acidity and is certainly more fruit-backward than any other Cali Cab I've ever tried, and i mean that in a good way. Forget the jam, the vanilla, the bramble and sugar. This gives wonderful Medoc-like elegance and terroir that also shows some minerality and prudent elevage. Much more Brahms than Tchaikovsky, IYKWIM. Would love to revisit in a few more years 5+12+16+8 = 91

  • delayed notes but I recall being a bit underwhelmed with this wine. It never gained a lot of depth or complexity with air and reminded me of a lot of $15 cabs.

  • Same notes as the earlier bottle with one additional observation... This bottle of Daou cab was the third wine of the night following a dry farmed zin from Paso and a bottle of Papillon. Again... the Daou was the favorite of the night. Simply delicious!

  • Drank this bottle a couple of weeks ago - forgot to post my impressions - so I'll do my best to recall. The nose is wonderfully full of luscious red fruits - berries and plums. The taste is also very fruit forward. It was entirely enjoyable and the favorite wine of the night. My one regret is that I didn't buy more. My source is now out of it and they do not expect more in!
