The nose was an intense mix of crushed ripe raspberry, sweet autumnal spices, wild herbs, sassafras, hints of brown sugar, wet leaves and undergrowth. On the palate, I found silky textures, complimented by zesty acids, creating a wonderfully balanced expression, as notes of baked black cherry, raspberry and zesty spice saturating the senses. The finish was long, with a mix of tart fruits, hints of brown sugar and lingering acidity which made for a fresh and vibrant experience.
Going in I was worried that the warmer vintage may have created a large-scaled wine, but the '07 Larigi is so balanced, and so easy to like. My hat is off to the Altare family for such a beautiful expression of Barbera.

Tasted at a merchant dinner with Silvia Altare. Very dark and dense ruby. Expressive nose of licorice, plum, vanilla, dried fruit with a bit of tobacco. Reminds me of Barossa Shiraz. On the palate full bodied with a touch of alcohol but very good fruit and ripe tannins. This is quite southern in style but a complex and sexy Barbera that did well with the crowd.

Wonderful red fruit, medium bodied, dark color, no noticeable tannins. This is really enjoyable on its own.
