  • This is the best bottle from a case bought en primeur. It showed all the expected Bdx characteristics on opening but we set it aside for 4h prior to tasting. Rather nice on its own but it came alive with food (rare beef).
It continued to open after the meal and showed a gorgeous nose, superb sweet fruit, great balance, depth, fragrance, and length. We savoured the quality and character long after the food.
I was more than pleasantly surprised with this wine. It emphasises a couple of points that I make frequently (assuming the wine had been stored properly).
First, whatever the pundits say, be prepared to believe in a decent Cru Bourgeois with a good track record and give it time.
Second, I do think it is a mistake to 'pop and pour' unless you want to diminish the wine and lower the pleasure from your investment. Give it time to open after de-corking.
This is cracking claret, even now. I am glad I held this back but it is, sadly, the last of a case. It has given great pleasure - now we must move on to the 2005. 90+ but no, it deserves 91.

  • Almost the end of a dozen. Still drinking well after a little time to open. Quite restrained - not a big wine - but it has fruit, acidity, and balance. A decent Cru Bourgeois that has more to give if it has been stored well. It is a food wine, though - not best for casual sipping and it won't necessarily please fans of New World CS. 4 Years since our last bottle and it is time to enjoy rather than cellar. 88+

  • Popped and poured after a slight chill. This poured a nice brick red. Had a fruity quality to the palate, almost strawberry, while still being very dry. Given recent reviews I was expecting this to be vinegar but was pleasantly surprised. The tannins have softened to almost nothing so drink now. If my fridge wasn't full I'd buy another bottle without hesitation.

  • Purchased from K&L Hollywood at $20. Thought I could be in for a pleasant wine for my guests, especially since it's 16 years old!

The wine was tart, faded, astringent, and way past its prime (assuming its prime was anywhere near impressive).

Easy pass. Buy a youthful and fresh Lilian Laduoy for the same price.

  • Decanted 4h before dinner. Excellent with cheese course, esp. with soft blue cheese and goats cheese.
Good quality claret, still offering plenty. I won't score it because I didn't record my thoughts at the time.
Next day, it was still drinking well.
