  • There’s nothing like a beautifully aged Obrien sitting in the glass and showing off the very best that’s Napa has to offer. These wines are uniquely built to enjoy very early but reward extended age. Right now the fruit is in a stunning spot, the young exuberance having yielded to voluptuous elegance. The fruit has receded but the wine remains plush and generous, resplendent with violets, leather and dusty earth. Not my last 2007 RotH, and I’m looking forward to the last one in a couple of years.

  • Last of many... So sad. What a rich, decadent wine. So Napa, so California. Blue fruit on the nose, creasy cassis rich palate, some nice oak treatment, lingering velvet fruit. A bit sweet, but nice stuff. Drinking great now on it's third day.

  • Another bottle. This has seen all the bad stuff blow off. All the good stuff left. Really liked this.

  • P&P. Chilled. Dark purple. Chocolate & darf fruits waft, like that. Big flavors as before, Merlot still dominates, tannins showing their teeth, oak has integrated so far here. Nice. Few hours later, through the steak dinner, chocolates. The nose is more resolved, earthy, some of that oak that I did not like from earlier bottles, the dry scorched earth wood is close ot integrating but giving off a bit of chemical twinge to what is other a nice wine. The fruit and tannins are dense, acid is there, just needs nice decant, rough food and more time.
