Was a bit funky on opening, such that I worried it might have been corked. Decided not to serve it and came back to it 24 hrs later. Funk blew off. This is maybe the ripest muscadet I've had, with the fruit showing ripe white peach and orange marmelade flavors. It's also quite milky/creamy from the lees. This is one case where I would have liked a little less lees influence. Still plenty of acidity, but less of a mineral impression than I would like. This is good but not worth the price premium it commands over other muscadets.

Well, Muscadet is certainly never associated with a great wine, it is usually consumed very young especially with great shellfish (plateau royal). This wine is certainly an exception to the rule. It is a 2005 that shows incredible youth, on the nose a very mineral yet complex mix with hints of citrous fruits, very smooth on the palate, fresh yet mouthfilling with great length. I will certianly keep a couple of bottles to try in a couple of years' time.

Mostly Old-World Weekend; 9/20/2012-9/22/2012 (Woodley and Cleveland Parks): I tasted this blind and guessed it as a 2010 Chablis. It's so mineral-driven, with gorgeous minerality and creaminess. Bright yellow color. Aromas of green apple, whipped cream, sweet tarts and slate. Very tangy on the palate, with a streak of minerals and lime. Very precise and focused. I was very surprised to see this was from 2005. It really reminded me of a young Chablis. It's frankly beautiful, and I'd love to try this again in five years. Thanks, Tom!
