  • A really lovely bottle. All of the features you’d expect at this age, but with a very quiet, understated depth and generosity. Can’t figure out if something was wrong with my last bottle or I just had a bad tasting night back then. In any event, this vintage is unfairly maligned in the central Loire, as various producers turned out very good reds.

  • -- decanted approx. 1 hr. before initial taste --
    -- tasted non-blind over approx. 3 hrs. --

NOSE: sweet plum and cherry fruit leather aromas; moderately expressive, and no obvious brett.

BODY: no chunky sediment, which was a bit surprising -- just some superfine particulate matter; blood red - violet color of medium-deep depth with some bricking throughout; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: pyrazine and tanned leather wash over plummy Cab. Franc goodness on the palate; some garrigue; medium+ to high acidity; a touch warm from the alc.. Drinking well enough, I suppose, and it is very enjoyable, but I can't escape the feeling it's in a bit of an awkward stage right now --- it seemed a bit blocky. Drink or Hold.

  • Corked!

  • Late night bottle, so only brief impressions. While approachable this was a somewhat backwards showing, on whose basis I would not pop further corks for at least 2-3 years.
On day 2 this is pretty with cocoa on the nose; crystalline red fruit and sous-bois on the palate, and nice bottle sweetness. I was slightly disappointed at the lack of tobacco or green pepper notes.
I plan to hold my remaining bottles 3 to 5 years before opening another.

  • From memory, this was delicious, choice CF with great intensity and balance, and slightly rustic. Excellent with flatiron steak chimichurri.
