Coravin. Medium-deep ruby; medium to medium-plus intensity aromatics, integrated blackberry and blueberry, balanced fruit, with swirling a bit more iodine and minerality; palate is medium bodied, balanced medium alcohol, not much persistence through the midpalate; finish is medium length. I tasted this the day or two after the 2006 Chavaroche, and it did not require the 30-60 minutes to open up (good right out of the bottle), excellent balance, and overall a bit more enjoyable to drink right now. Similar overall in quality and style. 90-91

The wine came out of the bottle feral, energetic a fusion of aromas. It excited me. The test - wife said it was rotting berries. A lot of smokiness, fermentation, stems, and an occasional whif of purity.
The rest of the bottle was poured in a decanter - Over the next hour or three, everything tamed down, that purity of blue fruit came through again. The wine became very soft and tannins were non existent.
Much preferred straight out of the bottle, a classic - then relaxed into a soft subtle Syrah that was better on the nose then palate.
Next bottle, I’ll pop and pour, recork, and repour as needed.

Consistent with my previous notes; Very fragrant nose with lots of N. Rhone typicity - meat, pepper and some barnyard - leading to a very well-rounded palate of dark fruits

House Party (Chicago, IL): This doesn't do it for me. It's too meaty without enough of the requisite olive characters. Too wild and gamey for me, alas. Still, there's some lovely black fruit character and spice on the palate. Good concentration, but you do have to get past the very animale nose.

Even right after opening, the nose on this wine is incredible and textbook Northern rhone: fragrant red fruit, olives, cured meats against a very perfumed, floral backdrop; The palate is a bit austere at first and needed some air to open up, with the tannic structure still noticeable despite the purity of the dark fruits; This will surely improve with more age, although it's very enjoyable right now with some air; And the fragrance of the nose is vividly etched in my brain
