  • Excellent Cab! Dark berries and cocoa with a hint of oregano or thyme...something herbal. Creamy tannins, really nice. Drinking really well now, but may improve over the next few years.

  • Wines at the Mill - Take 2 (Appomattox, VA): drank with burgers at the mill house. wow, was i impressed by this cab and was i proud of my father for picking it out at a tasting in santa cruz. dark nose: pipe tobacco, mocha, herbs. smells like a napa cab three times this cost. on the palate, this is dense, but so velvety as well. the tannins are rich and chewy. it smoothed out with air. it was unfiltered, so it could've used a decant. plus, it's such a young wine. this would benefit from five more years in the cellar, but it's still gorgeous now. great mouthfeel, spicy cassis fruit, lots of creamy vanilla to round it out on the finish. oak is well-integrated, fruit is dense and there are complex flavors all around. at $40, this is a steal. i feel like if this cab was from napa it could sell for more than $100.
