Brooding, funky, some barnyard floor but for me: quite exciting and fascinating both on the nose as well as on the palate.. The mot unlike Chateauneuf du Pape I ever had, but very interesting and making me want to take the next sip..

Mostly CDP dinner (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA): Expressive nose displaying very ripe red fruit, cherry, dry cherry, fruitcake, licorice, strong tobacco, leather, rare steak, dark spices, tree bark and earth. Excellent concentration, packed concentrated slightly dry red fruit, dense and deeply toned, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a medium to long ripe red fruit driven finish with licorice and tobacco at the end. This shows tobacco and dry cherry that I associate with Rayas. Just like the 07 Rayas, it is extremely ripe.

Châteauenuf-du-Pape 2007 - ten years after (chez moi): Alcohol here – quite marquee. Juice, yes, but this needs to be served cold to keep the vintage down. Made to impress. Falls apart after an hour, more or less dead on day 2.

D1h. Garnet red, yellow rim, 4.5. Wonderful complex bouquet of garrigue, ripe red fruits and barnyard. Harmonious palate in perfect balance, still a bit tannin, a bit bitterness on the finish. Elegant for a C9P. Drink now-2018. What a surprise compared to my previous bottle.

Klare likhetstrekk med Rayas, nedskalert, men fin kompleksitet her også. Både 01 og 07 er jo beherskede årganger i syd.
