  brought this to share with the crowd at "The Best Cellar Tasting". wanted Richard to see how it has developed and have his opinion. also shared this bottle with our table mates who were members of a local acapella group called bling. (2010 florida state competition champions and #8 in international competition). they treated us to a mini concert which prompted Richard to call Tony Bongiovi who conducted an impromptu audition. everyone was thrilled when he offered to bring them "into the studio".
  back to the wine. this was conducted as a blind tasting with a challenge to richard to identify it. he was immediately impressed with the dark color but this caused him to wander the globe until a guest at the table suggested we concentrate on california. after i exposed the fact that the wine was from lodi, richard was able to zero in immediately on the producer. for me, the wine was not as robust as when we first tasted it in december of 2007. nevertheless it still offered quite a bit of fruit. which was generous on the nose and the palate. flavor profile dominated by black cherry. uncharacteristically sweet for a cab. more reminiscent of the zin for which this producer is most famous. i was a bit surprised that the wine had held up so well. for me, this is not a wow wine as he proclaims on the bottle, but very pleasant nonetheless. everyone in the house was pleased. as a thank you, bling fulfilled my request, and sang their special comedic rendition of, "Mr. Sandman". this brought tears of laughter to my face.

  Still an excellent wine, but past its peak. The 2004 wasn't quite as good as the 2003. Here's hoping for the 2005!

  COLOR: very deep, pretty purple; NOSE: vanilla, black cherry soda, green onion, cracked black pepper; PALATE: smooth with soft if non-existent tannins; liquer-like flavor, and the black cherry definitely carries over. This is an easy-drinking cab.
