  • It's baaaack! The famous 07 Leroy Aligote...has enough reduction/sulfur to embalm a human being! Sometimes the reduction funk is akin to old school Coche match strike...other times, someone puked in a trash can! I've had this more than a half a dozen times...thanks to PC blowing these out back in the day for $19.99! I've always "appreciated" the funk in this...and to be honest, liked most of the bottles I've opened. Splashed decanted this 20 times...NEEDS serious air...ahhhh...there it is...that funky nose! No puke...more reduction match strike, burnt popcorn, petrol kind of funk. The fruit is GORGEOUS...still bright and crystalline with a little tart sharpness...puckering lemon, grapefruit citrus...has a creamy texture...vanilla butter...banana skin wax...but really some serious sharpness poking through with that citric acid. With some coaxing you do get a nice balanced blend at times...super savory crushed rock minerality...powdery flint...iodine...some pretty white flower florals...maybe some dried honey...but really no signs of age...hahaha cuz it's embalmed! You really have to be in the mood, and ready, for this wine...and definitely don't drink it in the company of other white Burgs, as it will stand out like a hooker at church! I like the wine...always have...will probably save my last bottle till the year 2057 just to see if Lalou had the 50yr make as her target here.

  • Domain Leroy; 7/2/2022-7/3/2022 (Mørkved): Golden yellow. Mighty nose. Petrol, oil, and lubricants. With air it eased a little; nuts and marzipan and hints of citrus. On the palate, the wine is rich. Burned matches, citrus, and almonds. Oily. Long finish that is in continuous development. Complex.

    Lime, Pineapple, Herbs
    Lean, high acidity

    Controversial...

  • Lisa's Big Birthday with Very Good Wine (Riverwoods, IL): Just not really pleasant. I thought there both some Volatile Acidity as well as significant notes of reduction.

  • Went TOTALLY against my recommendation of decanting this wine for a day to let the sulfur escape...a wtf pnp! Homage MK.....STANK STANK STANK! Could be the typical puke in a garbage can, but I like my previous note that likens it to an onion field next to a oil refinery! Really stanky, but kind of in a stank cheese pleasurably way? The fruit is wonderful...citrus cut with creamed pear and apple, tropical pineapple as well...savory with saline and smoky minerality...sea funk, crushed flint, little iodine. Pretty white flower florals intermixed with the funk...some spearmint ala Ramonet...honey from age. For an Aligote grape wine, its amazingly complex! That sulfur treatment is insane! Did they want to embalm this wine??? Would love to hear what Lalou thinks of this? I've had a half a case of this stuff, and can't help but love it for the train wreck it is!
