  • The darker red color (slightly cloudy, non-filtered) raised some flags. Nose was big and dark fruited right from the start: indicating whole clusters and significant oak, not a shock for an NBI wine. First sips were extracted and grippy, raising the usual vintage concerns. Ninety minutes of air, however, put the concerns mostly to rest. While you can't call it elegant and while it predominately featured dark fruits, it was still identifiably Burgundy. As the evening progressed a slightly sour orange, cranberry tang added interest and an insistent mouth coating flourish demanded attention. Balance is acceptable with decent acids. No heat--13%. Only the rough (oak?) tannins mar the finish. I don't expect this to shut down, so I would hold to give the oak more time to integrate.
