Hawksmoor Monday (Hawksmoor Guildhall): Served blind. In the spirit of playing the man - Batailley was guessed, but no-one got within a decade of the vintage. A little bit murky in the glass, with a hint of VA. This is firmly on the downslope but a privilege to drink - some illuminating discussion of what the Britain of 1962 was like added to the lustre.

Neil's Batailley Bash (The Square, London): A touch of VA on the nose, eaty, dry nsoe lurking underneath. Sweet fruit, possibly a touch pinched in the middle but a nice dry finish (in the best sense). Nose has a touch of furniture polish. Initially ok but seems a little weak after another mouthful of hare. **1/2

Good lively colour, lovely incensy nose, very clean sweet fruit, slightly attenuated but persistent. Delicious.

Chateau Batailley Dinner (The Square, London): VA, vinegary nose - oxidative too. Lean and attenuated on the palate. NR
