  • With the beautiful weather we had in NJ yesterday I set up my patio for proper soical distancing and had some friends over. Years ago I bought some magnums from the winery when they were having a fundraiser for victims of the typhoon. I opened the magnum and poured it into separate decanters so that each couple would have their own to eliminate the need of passing a bottle around. The nose was red fruit. The color was deep rust. The palate was dark cherry, strawberry, red plums and a hint of Asian spices. The finish was moderate in length. Really enjoyable especially to share with good friends who we had not been able to see in two months.

  • Astonishingly light and fresh for a 10+ year old California Pinot. Very pale, some bronzing. But all the lean, acidic, bright fruit we know and love from this vineyard. Not much depth, complexity, or profundity, but the laughing freshness gives this everything it needs to remain a smiling delight. Mabe a hint of smoke on the finish - teases on the back palate - but that might just be the power of suggestion given the vintage. (Totally different direction from when I tasted another bottle a year ago.)

  • The incipient secondary characteristics aren't playing nicely with the still unmistakable edgy brightness of Keefer fruit. Almost like there's a separate conversation starting, with some heavier, "browner" undertones. Still a wonderful wine - just either drink now to capture its early freshness, or wait a while to see if age melds more harmoniously.

  • Lightest of reds in the glass, really clear (needs decanting for sediment). Red cherries, sour cherries, and a special Keefer almost Red Vine component. Good finish and crisp throughout. Not your typical Cal Pinot but I see Ed's hand in this given his other Keefer wines. Zesty.
