Bright golden colour, lovely and thick unctuous oily liquid; intense creamy buttery lemony aromatics, very pleasant mouth-coating enveloping wine with classic California Chardonnay character: generous, assertive, large, expansive - lactic elements, banana, vanilla, very gentle oak, lychee. Satisfying minerality and elegant acidic finish, if a little too fat maybe for some palates. An excellent example of a modern, assertive California Chard. 90 or maybe 89 because a touch too hot for some tastes? There is no restraint in this wine - something that those who prefer a loftier, more austere Chardonnay would prefer. It's exuberant and expressive, like California itself.

Another trip to The Sampler (The Sampler (Upper Street, Islington, London)): Low oak on nose, a little hot but nice creamy tropical fruit sweets. Again, quite hot on the palate, but pretty clean citrus flavours, decent acidity. The alcohol is a problem, otherwise a decent Chard. At £16, there's no way.

Light straw colour. Very restrained nose; clean lemon fruit. Lighter than expected on the palate; refreshing but quite direct with citrus fruit, brioche and delicate use of oak.

On the nose: Apple-cake, light oak and a hint of citrus. The taste is dry, fairly little acidic, some of the oak is still noticeable. A little flat in the mid-palate but overall good.
