Given that there hasn't been a review in three years and most of the older comments weren't glowing, I wasn't expecting much. But this has evolved into a very well balanced California Meritage. Comes out of the bottle with a still fairly dark purple will little bricking at the rim, though one of my fellow tasters correctly guessed the vintage (I wouldn't have correctly guessed). Very nice polished yet present tannins frame the very typical California fruit of sweet cherry, slight cola and cedar notes. Nice finish. I'd put this up there in the Silver Oak category (which I like) as a crowdpleaser and say this still has another good five years left at this point.

Didn't realize I had any 2001 left. Surprising how well this wine had aged. Sexy, smooth and still plenty of fruit. Another confirmation of my thesis that quality californian need 7 -10 years to start showing their very best.

Probably on its last leg, this wine has aged well. Not as fruit forward as later Blueprint Cab vintages, nor as bold, it nonetheless exhibits an appropriate amount of blackberry on the palate with a hint of earthiness. It is balanced and has a nice smooth finish. If you have any of this wine, I would recommend you enjoy it soon.

The dominant Merlot in this blend made this fruit forward, tannins mostly subsided and a mellowed finish. Finish was a bit sour as reported in previous reviews. This wine appeared to be starting on its gradual decline.
