Wonderful wine. Deep ruby color with balanced tannins. Pairs well with meats or by itself. Opens to an even silkier wine after an hour. Still great 10 years later!

Deep garnet purple to the rim. Gorgeous dark fruit aromas of truffle, blackberry, cassis, tree bark, and brown sugar. The palate yields ripe dark brambly fruit with quite a bit of lifted sweetness and notable flavors of dark berry and cherry. The fruit is heady and sweet but there is also decent acidity to subdue that component somewhat. Considering that I still think this pushes the limit with nearly overripe sickly sweet fruit, which is puzzling, as I loved the Cortina from this vintage. Mellows somewhat with air showing more of a smoky barbecue tone to the fruit. Quite good and pleasant but slightly over exuberant.

Drank at combined birthday dinner for Pen, Sara and Bridgette. Decanted/screened 15 minutes prior to pouring into bordeaux stems. Screened while decanted which was a good thing, this is throwing a lot of sediment. Nose very muted - several folks smelled beach, I got a little funk, but that blew off after 5 minutes in the decanter. Wine was a bit muddled, never came into it's heritage. I've been drinking this wine for several years and it's other vintage siblings - I think there was something wrong with this one's early care. It just never came through and stayed boring and non-distinct.

Very good, well balanced, nice solid tannins. Typical Seghesio HR Zin. Enjoyed with short ribs and grilled corn.
