{screwcap, 14%} 100% cabernet this vintage. Still a deep garnet, with just a fraction of aging tint at the edges. Very leafy cabernet nose; basil, currants; fruit-driven rather than being oaky, for instance. Palate is a bit blocky, with hefty currant and black olive flavours. Full-bodied for cabernet, quite dense and thick, with low/medium acidity, medium dusty tannins. Nicely even palate, especially as a lot of Oz cab does have a real mid-palate hole. It’s just a bit on the hard side overall, like it’s got some Margaret river fruit in there! Back label offers ten plus years cellaring; you could double that easily on this showing and still expect some more evolution I think. Will never pass for Margaux though.

Meaty, dark ruby. Big. Some black fruits but more tar and liquorice. Plenty acidity. Medium length. Suspect better a few years ago.

Screwcap. Rich, concentrated red fruit and black spice. Tannins are mostly resolved, acidity is strong and clean.

After Tasting Dinner Wines (Wellington, New Zealand): Lush wine with plenty of American oak. Black olives American oak and candied blackberries. Really well balanced. Nice drop.

Midsummer Night's Celebration (Pagan Way) (1 star L'Effervescence (Tokyo)): Started out with buttery aromas that moved on towards a 'modern' fruity CS-nose. On the palate this is medium bodied and mature enough. All in balance, great intensity.
