  • this is definitely on the back nine. but the nose on this is lovely. …mature blackcurrant and blackberry, dusty, leather, dark chocolate, olive tapenade. palate is nice too… mature, savoury, minty, spicy, earthy. not much fruit to speak of here but with air, it’s still showing some acidity, and with air also some sweetness mid palate. there’s some tannic grip on the back end as well. a slight bitterness on the close. this has been well stored, prolonging life.
cheers to you, colin and the SSLS.

  • 45 min decant. Great color, heavy dose of black olive dominates, finishes lean n green. Some dark cherry. An oddity in the Kenwood Artist Series realm, though very pleasant with Piedmontese filets.

  • Definitely past its prime, but still a treat to drink. Nicely balanced with hints of leather and sandal. Dried red fruit.

  • Fairly dark. Nice tight nose, eucalyptus, coffee and black currant. Dark fruit and coffee flavours. Very full flavours but not ripe, sweet or roasted. Lots of tannins here but almost no acidity.

A very well made restrained California Cabernet.

  • Slight bricking in the color. Nose is heavy of leather or tobacco with slight tartness. On entry to the mouth those suggestions of leather and tobacco continue. Little or no fruit at this point. As the wine passes back still tight tannins arise. It is not until the back of the palate that some currant fruit and some acid are detected. This is not the wine for a wimpy, fruit-forward wine lover. Pinot Noir lovers stay away. There’s nothing subtle about this one. This is a powerful, in-your-face, you’d-better-like-oak-and-tannin wine.
