  • We brought this wine home from France in 1982 and opened it 37 years after we placed it in our cellar. Ullage down only a fraction of an inch. Cork removed mostly intact, soaked almost to the tip. Nose was musty, becoming brown sugar with a hint of ripe raspberry. Initial taste was subdued with plenty of tannins. After about thirty minutes, the palate showed the brown sugar and ripe raspberry, with black pepper coming up after another thirty minutes and tannins melting into the fruit. A quality wine that has aged well. We had pleasant thoughts about our years spent in France and look forward to opening our other wines we have from that era.

  • Cork came out in one piece, and showed even penetration about 3/4 of the way up. Refined and elegant nose, showing brown sugar and spice, a hint of cola. On the palate, good acidity, reasonable density and showing a brown sugar sweetness. This btl was in excellent shape, and was an absolute pleasure to drink. If this btl was representative, I see no reason why a well-stored example wouldn't be extremely enjoyable at 50!

  • Bob Parker wrote in June 2000 about this wine. Today, I can totally agree with his notes, but one Thing a totally disagree ;-))
This wine is still alive, more this CdP has many years to go. It reminds me of a very, very good Barolo, but this CdP has more sweetness and spices, especially in the finish. So if this wine is offered to you in an blind tasting, think about sweetness and spices and you'll finds the way to Chateaneuf du Pape, even it is 35 years old. Animalistic Nose, charcoal, Cola, cherry pits and arabic gum. A very strong effort for a 34 years old wine, fine-grained tannins, some sweet-bitterness, stony - Overall, vry pure an komplex, a great experience to smell and drink.
