  • From Art's Cellar. Last bottle and not quite as good as the one I had in mid-September of this year. Wine was clear and threw heavy sediment during decant. The wine was generally consistent with my earlier note, except the wine started to decline after about three hours from opening. The finish became tart/sour and the acid level started to rise. We made quick work of what wine was left in the decanter before it got any worse. Glad I did not wait any longer to drink this bottle.

  • From Art's cellar. Wine spent the last few months standing up in the manager's office of one of my favorite restaurants instead of on its side in my temperature and humidity controlled cellar, and it showed. Cork was dry and completely disintegrated while being pulled. As a result, we needed to do a double decant, once through my screened funnel and a second time through the restaurant's very-fine-screened one. Wine was clear, with a garnet bowl and thin amber bricking on the rim. During decant, a big cassis nose that seemed sour and off-putting popped up which made us concerned the wine was corked. Fortunately, the sourness blew off during the hour or so the wine rested in the decanter. In the glass, the nose was more muted: cassis, vanilla and soy sauce. In the mouth: wonderful balance, powerful black fruit, with green herbs on a medium-length finish. The wine did not decline at all during the meal. Well made and delicious wine. Price tag on the bottle: $9.99.

  • Given the age and the $13 release price, this was exceptional. There was worcestershire on the nose, but the color had only started bricking and was a deep garnet, so plenty of promise. This wine delivered. Lots of pretty fruit, earth balanced and just right amount of savory meat juices. Took us 2 hours to get through the bottle (must show reverence to 35 year old Cali Cabs!) and it never even approached the cliff.
