This bottle received a thorough decanting a few hours in advance of serving. It was in great shape for 23 years old and a pleasure to drink. It was paired with a 2000 Beychevelle which we opened and decanted the same way. Both wines were very nice, but the Beychevelle was the acclaimed favorite. (0 views)

A lovely Pauillac! Powerful and complex. Decanted 5 hours which was just about right. Lovely nose and still very fresh. I would say it’s just entering its plateau and will be at its best for the next 3-5 years. Great lingering finish. No need to wait much more. Open now, give it some air and enjoy!

A classic Pauillac in the “old” style. Getting brown at the edges now. Fragrant, interesting nose, showing mature fruit and a hint of violets. Not overpowering on tasting but has enough body to hide what tannins remain, revealing real complexity and fair length mid-palate. Just a touch of lead pencil character, though not dominant. Balance and finesse rather than power. Drank after a 2005 Haut Bergey, which was quite a different style: considerably bigger but (at its current stage of development) lacking the subtlety of this more traditional wine, which is more to my taste.

Soft tannins, lovely sweet fruit & aroma, not very complex or deep but pure pleasure. A classic mid-weight claret of traditional style.
