I had a very strange bottle four years ago and have put off opening this bottle. Happily, this was quite nice with dark fruit and mild syrah earthiness. Somewhat simple, but pleasantly so for a nice glass with dinner.

Surprised how light colored and weight with this wine. It's not a bad thing but not what you'd expect from SBC. Dark garnet but decent clarity. Cedar and sweet dark fruit aromas. Medium plus weight with a sweet cherry core. Cedar on the finish with red licorice.

Purple garnet with medium viscosity in the glass. Nose of cedar, spice, stewed prune, saddle hide, black fruit, licorice, pepper, tobacco, cocoa and camphor. Med-full body and spicy with chewy dark fruit, prune, spice, mint, licorice, sage, cocoa and tobacco. Secondary tart red fruit and smoke. Extracted with a decent backbone. Long finish.

This wine is well balanced, light, more elegant than many mid California region Syrahs. It improved over the 2.5 hour tasting. Perhaps time wlll prove this to be a better than 90 raed wine. Had with cheeses and pepper salame.

I agree with much of what's been written before me: Better without food than with. Very light in color (nearly Pinot-like); similarly lighter in style. An initial sense of funk with a mild spritz (which calmed down quickly and might have been zippy acidity). That said, I was surprised that it is so sweetly-fruited, which detracts from its cool weather, No.Rhone style. And, although the aromatics are there, I can't get passed the up front fruit. With nose partially plugged, one might mistake this for a Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot. Although I really like this, I can't say that it's objectively better than "very good" but will give it a bump for its popularity, herein.
