  • Andrew is a Barthod fan so I served this wine blind to him. Popped and poured. An attractive, herby, red fruited nose of raspberries, redcurrants, brushwood, citrus and garrigue. On opening it was quite earthy with sous bois and cigar notes. Over the next hour or two the bouquet moved more ethereal and less earth bound. On palate, non-linear and complex. Below medium weight. Serious, sparkling acidity on the back palate, consistent with the vintage. Ready to drink now. Initially not showing a lot of Chambolle typicity. Savoury and developed, with thyme and sage, Andrew guessed it as, first, Nuits-Saint-Georges and then Pommard. With two hours open it was more classical Chambolle red cherry and plumper and fatter, albeit still with those secondary elements. "It sweeps across the palate", said Andrew. "Powerful but so delicate", noted Maciej. Drink over the next 10 or so years but, ideally, give it a 2-3 hour decant before serving.
