  • From 75cl, dry cork split in two on extraction. Brown-tinged colour, musty scent, old stewed plums on the entry. Heat damaged at some stage, or simply over the hill? NR

  • A great wine (opened 4 days ago, today it produced its best glass)

Complex aromas, subtle with good cohesion. Dried black cherry, cinnamon, wilting violets, licquorice, fresh basil with dry rosemary.

The body is medium, in no way imposing. The acidity is cleansing and tart.

The palate delivers in composed fashion, mature dark fruit with a slight bitterness, lots of herb-like flavours, namely thyme with suggestive floral undertones of violets. Cinnamon/nutmeg may also show.

The finish is long and savoury with herbs dominating.

An elegant and charming wine. Straight out of the bottle it is very tannic and the rough around the edges. Do the right thing and get your moneys worth, either open a few days early and have yourself a sample glass or decant in a big container for many hours.

Younger versions of this wine will display even harsher tannin, but more of a sweet red fruit character. They are drinkable after about 5 years provided they are decanted correctly, but ageing med- long term will pay off via gained complexity and composure.

    Drink now-2030+

  • Massive, tannic, fantastic Barolo-like Barbaresco. Could easily age longer but stunning to taste now.

  • The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like plum, raisin and mineral. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.
