  • Double decanted for sediment in the AM, decanted for a couple hours in the afternoon, then drunk over several hours.

    Served alongside the 03 Pira.

A terrific nose, not really brooding, but dark and serious. Quite deep. Dark nebbiolo fruit, tar, violet more than rose, savory and umami notes, nettle, and ferrous notes. Structured and vertical on the palate with terrific balance. There is aton going on with more dark fruits, tar, savory and umami all coming together into a greater whole. Nothing is out of place. Power and grace. This is deep and long, delicious already with much more to give into future. Quite long on the back end. 95+

  • All the stuffing is there, I think this was even a bit young to drink.

Deepish garnet. Intense nose and flavors of florals (violet, rose petal) and mature dense red and black cherries. Dry, Full bodied, velvety high but integrated tannins, high alcohol, med + acid. Med+ finish and a great mouthcoating texture.

This is drinking very well with a very good flavor balance between ripe and dried fruit condition. And yet it felt like it was a little infanticide to open this early. Certainly could have used a decant which was not avail at the restaurant. Chewy, powerful, dense, but not clumsy.

Enjoyed this bottle at 83 1/2 restaurant in NYC with some advanced wine lovers. Very good food and its BYO w/ no corkage on Weds and Thurs.

  • Lucas fourth vintage of being in charge together with Alfredo at Roagna. This is class and classicism in purity, a glowing 2004 Barolo today. The harmony of 2004 is so evident in this very classic, old-school Barolo. Red fruits with some candied parts, road tar, forest floor, gravel and herbal infusion are jumping out of vigorous, vital core. Present tannins. There is a compelling intensity here with an expansive dimension in the glass. Firing on all cylinders at age 18. A "must have" for all Roagna aficionados.

  • Rich and mature Barolo. Lovely brick color. Powerful nose, fully involved palate.
Served with grilled boneless leg of lamb.
