Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • A Father's Day treat, decanted 1 1/2 hours, consumed over 1 1/2 hours with a tri-tip dinner.

Garnet in color, and very slightly browned, if at all. Cherry skins on the nose and not much else. On the palate, the cherry notes carry through and are joined by currants, blood orange acidity, and maybe a hint of tobacco. Tannins are well-integrated, although still present enough to roughen the tongue a bit.

This bottle was alive and kicking, although I might describe it as ageless rather than youthful. From this bottle and the 1978 I had at New Year's, I'm becoming convinced that these don't really develop much over time...they just abide. A nice drink nonetheless.
