  • One bottle corked, the other drinking very nicely. Still has life.

  • Still very good; no tertiary elements; very robust, strong fruit; high alcohol content, but fine and balanced; pretty forward on its own.

  • The best of the three pack I purchased years ago.

    Dark ruby complexion. Bricking rim
Meaty nose with dark plums, ripe fruit, dusty notes, cigar box
Dry, full bodied, good acidity, medium plus finish. Tastes like the nose.

This wine is without a doubt at its peak. A wonderful bottle that has aged gracefully. Lots of nuances in the bottle over the five hours it was consumes (three hour decant).

    Good stuff!

Smoked a Caldwell All out Kings

Grilled short ribs for dinner with all the fixings.

  • Decanted and drank over six hours

Deep, murky, ox-blood, full bodied wine. Very little sediment as compared to the last bottle.
Dark fruit, some leather, tobacco, pencil lead
Big and bold. Good amount of dark fruit showing. some graphite. Chewy. Meaty.
Great nuances throughout the bottle. Medium finish.

TOTALLY different than the last bottle I had a few months ago which was frankly a disappointment. It's strange as both bottles were from the same case and stored in unison with one another. (and there is a third) This bottle was first class. I am looking forward to my last bottle which will go down near the end of this year.

  • With l'il Rob.

Decanted and drank over three hours.

Dark garnet, full bodied, LOTS of sediment.
Powerful dark fruit, vanilla, cherries, tobacco box, leather.
Thick, lots of dark fruit. Medium plus finish. High ABV, meaty.

This wine needs to be paired with some red meat. On its own, its overpowering, and somewhat under-balanced. Merit wise its a decent wine, but maybe my bottle did not show as well as some of the other tasters, and their contributed notes. I have two more bottles, which I will save for the coming 18 months.
