Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (J&J's): Blind. Pale ruby red color with notes of cherry and sappy herbal elements. Cherry and forest floor with noticeable acidity...a bit too much. With air this develops a subtle bouillon note along with strawberry and something a little dirty/funky. The fruit fades as this sits in the glass and the acidity stands out that much more. Lacking balance at this stage.
Double decanted off its sediment two hours before the flight was poured and it faded quite a bit after the cork was pulled- more than I would have expected. If this bottle was representative, I'd say this would be best popped and poured with a meal.

Medium ruby color to magenta at the rim. When first opened, this showed some VA along with the floral aromas and fruit. After ~5 hours of slow ox, the VA had blown off, and the nose had a purer expression of violets, dark fruits (blueberry maybe), and forest floor. The palate was medium light and savory, with the silky '02 texture very much in evidence. There's not a lot of fruit depth left, but enough to buffer the remaining structure for the time being. True to the Theurons terroir, some dusty tannins remain and pinch the finish a touch. This is at a nice point of maturity and will probably hold for some time before it starts moving into old wine territory.

The wine opens up after about 30 minutes of air. Fully mature and brownish red in color, there is still some good raspberry notes. This is consistent with previous bottles. Contrary to the prior reviewers, I don't think this wine has more than another couple of years of pleasurable drinking left in it. Drink up.

Popped and poured. Drinking amazingly well after airing in the glass for 30 minutes. A previous reviewer mentioned Kirsch, which is a great reflection of the palate. A really nice acid backbone. A really nice mid-weight Burgundy that can be drunk now or held for another 4-5 years. Glad I've got three more of these.

still alive and well - maybe it is losing a bit of its mojo but delicious nonetheless!
