  'Earthy' and 'rustic' in a good way. Purple fruit on the palate, with balanced finish. Slightly high acidity though and not such a good match with grilled Mackerel tonight.

  I bought a case of this wine at auction (at a discounted price) and have been enjoying a few bottles recently. This wine is great on the palate with elegant infusion of perfumed plum and berry flavours leading to a seamless fruity finish. The wine is tasty, lively and still quite young. Better than Coudoulet 2008 by some distance.

  This needs 30 minutes in a decanter. The best aspects of the wine are the clean vibrant fruit flavours on the palate and the quality sleek texture. On the downside, the cork was soaked, the opening aromas are a bit scary, the acidity is higher than I would like, and there seems to be a touch of VA. Not a wine for perfectionists, but I enjoyed the no-apologies fruit-filled verve on show here. 88-89 points.

  Berry Bros 2008 Rhone tasting (1 Great George Street, London): It's kiond of like a Burgundy; bucketloads of tannin, but elegant and pure. Good on a non typical Rhone way. Mineral notes.
