Decanted and served side by side with ‘07 Spottswoode. Initial look, light color, a bit thin on the palate. Waited 30 min and the deep color and weight appeared. Fruit was alive with a long and lingering taste. Wow. Once again, decanting allowed the flower to open and it was really good. Drink.

This opened up quite well with rich berry fruit and good freshness along with a fabulous note of eucalyptus. It did fade some in the glass and become a little sweet especially compared to the '90 Bordeaux drunk alongside (Lynch Bages & La Mission HB) which kept improving in the glass. Still, better than expected.
Another lovely bottle of this from the late Charlie Wagner...13% ABV in contrast to the 21st-century versions made by his son Chuck that usually come in at 15.5%+. Decanted at 5:30 pm and tasted mostly from 8:30-11pm. The mouthfeel on this was so velvety smooth and appealingly dense but fluid with no off-beat or hard edges to be had. Nose had layers of tobacco, cedar, vanilla, pecans, black and red berries, and spices. The palate was similarly complex and layered adding emphasis on different flavors at different times throughout the evening. Perhaps best when the last drops were poured after 5 1/2 hours! Very long on the finish, more than a minute. Perfectly mature, with only very slight bricking on the meniscus though hard to figure this will improve from here. It should continue on the peak plateau for some time, however.
