  • Mature quality Israeli wines tasting (at Eli Raban's home, Rehovot): Deep ruby
    Med+ aromas of black cherries, cranberries, roasted plums, cedar, eucalyptus, mint, Rosemarie, tobacco leaves, black tea, charcoal, chocolate, Garrigue, hyssop, white pepper;
    Developed
    Dry, high acidity, high tannins, high abv, med+ body, med+ flavors intensity consistent with the nose, herbaceous, complexed, long finish; Drink now - though can age few more years.
    Surprisingly still vivid and enjoyable with good quality.

  • Nice dark Ruby to purple color. A nice strong bouquet of sweet dark cherries and earthy fruit. On the palate it has nice ripe dark cherry earthy dark berry fruit flavors. A nice long finish. Modest complexity. It does have some soft hands and a little bit of acid left which may allow it to develop a tiny bit more. It's certainly tastes like it has staying power. It tastes like it has another 5 years left on it, but with Israeli wines you never know. Unlike many Israeli wines this is not over ripe. It has very nice balance and some complexity. Definitely worth trying

  • Carmel, Mediterranean, 2007: Man this wine has changed in the past 4 years. Not for the better I'm afraid. Dark ruby in color, the nose displays notes of black currants, cherries, red plums with a hint of nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, with an elegant texture. On the palate, notes of black cherries, raspberries and plums along spices such as nutmeg and pepper with hints of green tobacco leaves, medium acidity and integrating tannins with a touch of black pepper on the moderately long finish. This wine does not feel tired, over the hill nor oxidized. However it has lost much of its complexity and layers, kinda backwards. The structure and fruit are still sufficient for a couple more years of cellaring so perhaps it will evolve favorably but I doubt it. Drink now. 13.5% Abv. 90

  • California-Israel sample tasting (Alan's home, Tel-Aviv): Coravin tasting
    Carignan, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Viognier

    dark translucent red-purple with lighter rim
    subtle quality red fruits nose, light spices, as if some fruitiness faded away but still evident
    medium-bodied, firm tannins, well balanced and harmonised, nicely structured, fair complexity, wide sour red fruits flavours with pleasant spiciness, seems at peak and starting to decline, rustic finish and aftertaste; drink now and enjoy!

  • This wine is now at it's peak.
    The wine looks deep violet colored. It smells of blackberry, raspberry, plum and cherry with similar flavors as well as cinnamon & clove. The body is medium/full with a nice round texture. Totally balanced acid/tannin/spiciness/sweetness. Truly excellent.
