  • I keep waiting for Godeau to show up and live up to the hype Spectator and Suckling created for it, but alas like Vladimir, I am confused by whether we are at the beginning or are already at the end of its window. Fortunately, the price point was one that I cannot get very offended by in terms of actual performance of the wine.

  • A bit overly reductive and vegetal

  • Decanted 2 hours. Almost opaque, dark fruits and berries, tobacco and tannins. Modern style, fruit forward, big legs and very ripe.
First bottle from case bought on release on strength of reviews, (I know, I know) I knew from previous tasters notes that this wine was devisive because of the style and ripeness, so was hoping for a better experience. Nothing really wrong and I like both the classic and modern styles of Bordeaux, but there is something here.. Maybe too ripe, maybe too extracted, I'll let others with more experience decide. Nothing to do now but wait it out and hope for improvement. 88-89.

  • Last of 5 half bottles I bought as futures. The most interesting one so far, but also beginning to show its decline. Stored at 55 since delivery and the cork came out intact with an Ah-so (probably not necessary, but good practice). What was previously inky and violet now shows some bricking; prior bottles were in your face and heavier, but this was more mid-weight and almost elegant, though with an unwelcome port note. The high alcohol is still present, even as the tannins have softened. The closest I have had to a really good bottle of this but still something was just off. All things considered, not unreasonable for the price ($16/half bottle on release).

  • Tiniest smidge of VA kept it from beating out a bottle we opened in 2016:

"This wine is labeled as being 95% Merlot and 5% Cab Franc, and I'm glad we had time for a one hour decant. Blackberry, currant, smoke/ tar, and tobacco are prominent. Nice length and backbone. It has a nice round mouthfeel and held up nicely overnight. 91 pts. Now-2025 (2960 views)"

I think my dates were good. It's smoothed out nicely.
