  • {screwcap, 14.6%} Should have taken my own advice here. At nine years old, despite an attractive bricking deep garnet colour, the nose and palate on this is very reticent indeed. Given that it had fairly low tannins and modest acid to start with, and it's been soundly made, what you end up with is a wine that's got very little in the way of palate impression, either flavour or texture. So, fading away fast. Not in any way offensive, I hasten to add, just devoid of much flavour at all. There's a memory of compost-infused strawberries, but that's all. Drink!

  • {screwcap, 14.6%} Warm, fermenting over-ripe strawberry flavours. Some dust and earth, but fairly simple flavours. Loose, soft dusty tannins. Aromas are in line with the palate. The wine is at least medium-bodied, but a lot of this presence is due to the alcohol I reckon, even though the wine doesn't finish too hotly. Has a fairly even presence along the tongue, but the flavours are pretty simple and there's not much complexity, despite the development apparent in the taste. It was early days for the vineyard; can't expect too much I suppose. Drink these up; they're ready now.

  • Coal Valley Winery Visits Apr 10 (Coal Valley, Tasmania): {screwcap, 14.6%, A$32} There's a dark tangy note to the strawberry/blueberry fruits. Interesting, almost intriguing nose. This is quite tannic - certainly fuller-bodied on the palate that the other pinots, and it's not just the alcohol (which remains well embedded in the other structural elements). Quite persistent finish - this is an impressive wine for young wines - and sits between the other two pinots as far as quality (and price) goes. A pretty good buy.
