Faint sparkle on this light rose; surprisingly robust and complex, with nice underlying flavors. Gentle but lingering finish, and cloaked alcohol. Yet another winner from this strong region. 50/5/13/15/8

(BOULAY Sancerre Rose) 2009 Boulay Dear Friends, 2009 rose is on top of the world right now and judging by Tanzer’s review this morning, justifiably so. Here’s one of the best and highest rated of the vintage - directly from the winery cellar, with impeccable provenance. I was going to wait until Thanksgiving to offer this but the 2009 just became “allocated” and it’s a beverage that deserves every accolade and then some. If you are used to simple and charming rose, guess again – this is as serious as Boulay’s Sancerre, meant to enhance the gastronomic experience but also to tantalize and titillate on its own. A rousing wine - full of terroir and a sense of regal complexity, it almost seems like a shame to consume it in the first year – I wouldn’t. Other examples of Boulay Sancerre Rose have aged for years, even up to a decade or more with nuance and delicacy at every step of the way. Considering the reasonable tariff and that 2009 may be one of the finest vintages of Pinot Noir ever produced in Sancerre (see 2009 red Burgundy for hype machine on Pinot Noir), this wine has more than the typical level of collector appeal: rdquo; VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEDED and not very easy to find outside of the Northeast. I little frizzante in this bottle. Purer red color, with a crisp mouth feel.
