Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Youthful expressive nose displaying primary and coiled rich black fruit, blackberry jam, blackberry liqueur, licorice, caramel, dark spices and limestone. Exceptional concentration, incredibly concentrated packed black fruit, rich, deeply toned and concentrated, medium acidity and mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish. This is the biggest wine of the flight. It may need a couple more decades to reach the peak. It is not as enjoyable as the other wines, especially compare to the 10.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): In 10/09/09/98 vertical with a Jean Gros 83 bonus. My first time tasting this wine since from barrel at the domaine in 2010. Ultra ripe with so much fruit coming from all directions. Classically Vosne spiced with so much here, all so fresh and vibrant. Frankly my least favorite of the vertical for enjoyment TODAY, but I am excited to know I have 5 bottles in the cellar, and look forward to them in another decade+. This was also decanted an hour+ before serving, and would have benefited from even more air.

Perfumed nose, aided by significant stem inclusion, with gobs of spice and raspberry. Juicy red fruit on the palate, lush texture, nice acidity for the vintage, but a bit of a clipped finish.
Moderate color. Slightly subdued but precise nose. Very young but very elegant. No rough edges. Just ethereal elegance. Subdued fruit, but pure red fruit backbone with hints of meat, fat, and ethereal tannins. This is still quite young and has plenty of life left. Beautiful!

Red Burgundies With Allen Meadows (Eleven Madison Park): Powerful but elegant nose already. Rather green. Big, spicy, beautiful. Already smells better than a bottle of '03 opened a few months ago. Precise and lengthy. Ripeness really shows up on the end of the palate. Some oak present. Ripe black cherry palate.
