Brought to Picones de Maria, Madrid. Beautiful nose, a bit closed at first, but it really opened up after 30 minutes. Raspberry, flinty and iron, a little smoke. Full without being in excess, it is drinking beautifully now based on this experience.
Struck me as being a bit light for a Rugiens. Red fruit dominant. Acidity quite high, but not tart. Decent finish with a citrus peel, lemon sorbet like aftertaste. Ethereal. It doesn't have the heft and robustness of a Pommard. Digging around and I found it's from Rugiens Hauts, which has a outcropping of chalky subsoil. The chalk probably leads itself to a more aromatic, elegant style, accentuated by the vintage. 2008 always strikes me as one with higher acidity. (The 2010 vintage is the first vintage that contains equal parts Rugiens-Hauts and Bas, which is more limestone and marl. Keep your eyes peeled for the change of style.)

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Farmyard, funky, gamey, meaty over black fruit. Medium plus intensity acidity, sour blackberry, chalky tannins, farmyard. Oof.

At the Domaine: Darker fruits and spices on the nose, more intense but tannins make a difficult read
