04-08 Nebbiolo theme lunch at IT Shanghai. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of VA, strawberries, licorice. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (145), smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity with flavours of strawberries, ripe raspberries, red cherries, savoury grounded earth, spices. Long resonating finish. Very good quality. Actually still going strong over 72hrs of air. Strong rose petal feel, and classic sour red cherries + strawberries.

Such a beautiful, graceful Nebbiolo. Not decanted - took about 1 hour to open up, but when it did - it was magnificent. Rose, violets and cherries on the nose. So lacy and delicate. This was a hit.

Cherry and rose petal on the nose. On the palate, rich red cherry and blackberry with notes of earth, orange peel, and tea on the medium to long finish, with strong tannins and strong acidity. On the second day, the tannins had mostly faded, and although it was smoother it was no less complex. If I had tried this blind I would have guessed it was at least five years younger than it is. It's excellent, and it was an excellent value at under $60; sadly the price has increased significantly. The Cellartracker drinking window looks about right.

I was told that this had been in the decanter since early in the morning. Clearly that helped as this was just rockin when I got to it! I could smell it all as I poured into my glass with enveloping tones of rose petals, savory herbs, licorice, sour red cherries, earth, leather, juniper berries, strawberries, herbal spices, mint, menthol, and balsamico (in a good way). It's noses like this that make me just swoon for Piedmont and Nebbiolo specifically. There is so much depth and balance that allows you to become lost in the glass. The Full bodied feel is poised and balanced with tart, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is letting you know that there are still years ahead of this before it'll really be ready. The nose on the other hand is right there if you give it a lot of air and it's the nose that really makes the wine right now. I really hope I cross paths with this again in a few years as there is still room to grow and get even better than it already is.

Even better the 2nd day. Was perfectly balanced after a lot of airtime.
