  Rik, öppen doft med massor av mörk frukt, peppar, fat och lakrits. I munnen däremot märks det att vinet har några år på nacken, och mycket av frukten och kraften har tonats ner. Tyvärr har det inte lett till så mycket mer. Vinet har en viss elegans, men det har också, börjat falla isär, tappa struktur. Här finns en vital syra, och frukt med vissa nyanser, men syran och frukten har delat på sig, och resultatet blir ett vin utan harmoni och utan den rikedom av nyanser som jag hoppats på.

  Had a glass with dinner at Matterhorn. This wine has split the critics, with Bob Campbell a big fan, but Geoff Kelly finding the vintage disappointing. For me the wine was lacking the aroma and character of the better Hawkes bay Syrahs and was somewhat of a disappointment. It was still a good wine, just not as good as expected.

  Had a glass with lunch in Wellington, amazing wine. Textural and fairly complex even while this young. Smooth, perfectly ripe fruit and very drinkable, actually one of my highlights for this year.
