Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Opened and poured almost immediately. Served at cellar temp which does add some elegance to this wines. The thing I've always loved about Colgins is their complexity. It's an interesting wine. There's layers and depth. True here as well. It's an interesting and enjoyable wine. It also seems like maybe the age is allowing the wine to start to get to a better spot. Nice to see how it's going but I think ours will continue to rest.

PnP and ready from the get go. I really tried to find flaws in this but alas I kept coming back to refined, integrated, sophisticated, elegant. She was a beauty tonite. Cedar, lead pencil, pencil shavings, woody, blueberries, hint of red berries, saline. No oak and no tannins. In the zone and no sense holding these unless you don’t like fruit notes. 97 and that might be conservative.
So at first it seems very unusual. Can't really find itself, hints of cedar, cherry and spice. This is after 3+ hours in the decanter! Closed it up for day 2. That's when it really started to show. Things normalized and came together making a nice showing... It's not a BIG cab, but more refined and one can tell the winemaking that went into this. Very clean, not fatty like cheap cabs can be or even $100 bottles. The purity is this wine's best characteristic. Rich dark fruit cassis maybe? Mostly on the backend making for a wonderful finish. Went well with my rack of lamb, complimented the meal very well. I'd say it's simply not worth $300, and the Cariad to me was much better. If you are curious, get ONE and see if it's for you! I got the 3 pack, and well I have two very nice bottles that will take 2 days to open up - lol.

Bested by 2008 Bond Vecina. After 5 hours started to open up more but early on tasted a green streak that wasn’t super appealing.
