Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • After a couple of bottles in 09/2012 & 07/2014, where the wine was simple and short, having closed-up around this period, the one I had yesterday showed how the wine had transformed into a beautiful expression of inimitable Mosel riesling. Straw coloured, with indigenous yeast, crisp white fruit, hints of sweet pineapple and grapes, and stored winter apples on the nose, and with proper kabinett weight and briskness in the mouth, this bottle was fine plus. Besides the delicious fruit sweetness at the tail, it also conveyed a suggestion of salinity, which would have made me think more of the Saar than the middle Mosel, had I not seen the label.

  • Yellowish-straw colour. Pungent lemon, lemon-sour confectionery, very minerally. Green and yellowish apple. A yeasty note. The palate has a little background spritzig. Pungent, but with a touch of sweetness weaving in and out. Quite long. Very concentrated. Classy. A fine Mosel trocken.

  • Straw colour. A lifted floral nose. Acacia and white fruits, followed by minerals. On the 2nd day, from a half-bottle, the nose reminded me more of Alsace than it did the Mosel. Whilst still floral, the fruit had become pungent. Medium body, but light on its feet. Despite it being a trocken, it very quickly revealed a lovely natural sweetness. Bears a resemblance to the Georg Breuer estate village dry riesling wines, style-wise. On the 2nd day, I thought that the wine was at spatlese-level ripeness. Served blind, I would not have gone for Mosel, but this is fine and is drinking very, very nicely now.
