  • From Magnum, ready to drink, nice. A bit too much oak, but o.k. Smooth tannins and well balanced acidity, no edges.

  • Leather and tobacco, decent tannins, opens well after 2 hours in decanter. Strong body, long finish that is soft on the palette, paired well with dinner but would also drink by itself.

Have got through most of this case now, drinking superbly at 12 years. Superb value for money and if I could buy more I would do so in a heartbeat.

  • Late Apr 2020, tasting of six different Bordeaux red wines (1996 Marbuzet, 2016 Ormes de Pez, 2009 Haut Madrac, 2009 Bourgneuf, 2012 Phelan Segur, Lagrange 2012) all in 0.375 L bottles.

Late Apr 2020, Chateau Haut Madrac 2009, 0.375 L bottle: not decanted; dark crimson color; after approx. 30 minutes intense aromas/flavors of cassis, herbs, mint and violets in nose and mouth; sweet and smooth on the palate accompanied by a nice, fresh acidity.

What a nice surprise! Bought a 12 bottle case en primeur. It seems that I have opened most of the bottles much too early (see my other tasting notes about this wine). The Haut Madrac 2009 has now reached top shape level. Patience (combined with good storage) pays off in the fine wine world.

  • Pretty delicious, as it has been since release. Extra-ordinary value.

A touch of obvious alcohol is slightly detracting, otherwise modern Bordeaux, nice ripe Cabernet flavours, with classic freshness. The oak is a bit cosmetic sweet - not really needed.

Another example of 2009 delivering what was promised but didn't quite work out for 2005 - that is, minor Bordeaux performing way above their ranking. I suspect that the 2010 of this chateaux will also please.

13.5% ABV. Sealed with cork. Enjoy now.

  • Decanted (3+ hours); Glassware Zalto Bordeaux; Aperitif

Still young, but with so much going on: wildberries, black cherry, spices and cinnamon scents create a beautiful perfume. On the palate dark chocolate, cherry, black raspberry, graphite and again very spicy. Arnaud Durand and Denis Dubourdieu make a great job at Haut-Madrac. This is a must-buy!
