Fully mature with a golden amber hue, this had exquisite quince and pear fruit ladled with honey, yet in spite of the sweetness and unctuousness there was still freshness and minerality. As the flavours developed there were caramel and nuts, and the finish was simply everlasting and divine. It was just so balanced and complex; simply put, a superlative expression of luscious Loire Chenin. CHP 97 pts

Coppery gold in colour this is now fully mature, with a bouquet of quince, toffee, nuts and honey which is repeated on the palate. Very slightly oxidative, the sweetness is perfectly balanced by a spine of acidity so it never cloys. The flavours are intense and complex and the finish sublime. A wine produced by a master craftsman. Fabulous! CHP 96 points

Chris Kissack recently posted a short but rather glowing note on this wine (http://www.thewinedoctor.com/author/loirestars2012.shtml). The bottle I drank came in a .5 l format which I found appealing: not too much and not to little. Enough for several people. And at 11.5 % alcohol, an inviting proposition. The wine is surprisingly darkish (something I noted the first time I had opened a bottle 18 months ago). I bought it at the vineyard and it traveled back to NZ in my suitcase. Usually a safe proposition. But the wine is fine and it's not uncommon for Pierre-Bise wines to show an evolved appearance but be completely primary on palate. This is beautiful, pure, honeyed, rich and layered fruit. All baby fat at this point but nice acidity and spices. Orange blossoms and oranges are the dominant perfume on this wine with a hint of caramel. Botrytis is clean and luscious. The mouthfeeel is unctuous. This is too young to drink a lot of it but it's just splendid.

This is wonderful wine. Powerful, heady aromatics rich with botrytis. Great balance, bitter oranges on the palate, long. Amazing.
