(Yalumba Viognier, Eden Valley) Many a Viognier is overripe, alcoholic, over-oaked, blowsy, or even downright sweet. Enter Yalumba from the Barossa Valley, with its long-term commitment to the variety. The winery offers three Viogniers, all displaying an impeccable combination of just-ripe fruit and oak. Of the three ’09s, the Eden Valley was my favorite, with bright peach-apricot and jasmine notes and a touch of ginger spice and almond on the finish. Hot Picks
