  • D+0h: a lot of deposit in the filter and in the bottle, smells of blackberry and raspberry (reminds me of a port wine) D+4h: dark as ink, on the rim one cm purple red, smells of smoke, blackberry and eucalyptus, smooth in the mouth, has a certain residual sugar, so not completely dry, medium body, in the mouth bacon, smoke and blackberry, in the aftertaste blackberry, bacon and smoke, good length (30 sec), good red wine, has kept well, but shows distinct signs of age. I wonder if the decant time was too long or whether I kept the bottle too long in the first place? Perhaps I will either drink my remaining vintages of the Vertente younger (max. vintage +10 years) or just decant them for an hour.

  • Bottled unfiltered in 2010.
D+0h: a lot of deposit in the filter as well as in the bottle, smells intensively of blackcurrant, reminds me of a young vintage port
D+4h: dark as ink, on the rim slightly purple red, smells of dark chocolate, dried blackcurrant and in the background of a little bit of eucalyptus and pepper, medium body, dry, but not that harsh, in the mouth dark chocolate and dried blackcurrant, in the aftertaste first blackcurrant and later dark chocolate and a little bit of acidity, good length (30 sec), a really good red that reminds me very much of port-wine.

  • Tight when first opened, so I decanted it into a decanter and then put it back into its bottle after 45 minutes to serve it. That made all the difference in the world, as it was singing then. Plenty of dark fruite on the palate and drinking nicely.

  • Blind tasting. Dark ruby-red, with a slightly purplish rim. The nose is greeted by flavors of heart-cherries, pipe tobacco, stewed plums, black pepper and a vegetal note. This medium-bodied wine possesses a fresh and lively acidity, with smooth, polished tannins even though they seem to lack maturity, therefore resulting in a astringent mouthfeel. Medium-long finish. Flavors of heart-cherries, plums, redcurrants, licorice and some gingerbread on the mid-palate. Already in a good spot, but with sufficient breath for another four years.

Blindverkostung.
